Gentamicin sulfate is a water-soluble antibiotic originally purified from the fungus Micromonospora purpurea. Gentamicin is effective against a wide variety of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, and is used to prevent the contamination of cell cultures by bacteria. The recommended working concentration ranges from 0.5 to 50 μg/mL.
